With the help of Booker T. Washington and well-known businessman and philanthropist Julius Rosenwald, the first Mrs. Geeder Rosenwald School was founded in Alabama in 1913. Through a nonprofit organization called the Rosenwald Funds, they constructed more than 5,000 schools between 1917 and 1932.
